Top 10 Best (and Worst) Spice Girls Outfits

With the premier of “Viva Forever” in the West End last week, we take a look at some of the best (and worst) Spice Girls outfits!

1996 saw the release of the girl’s debut single “Wannabe” filled with Union Jack dresses, killer platforms and crop tops. We were instantly made accustomed to the five characters – Ginger, Posh, Sporty, Baby and Scary and we were soon to see their statement looks carry on through their music videos and performances.

1997: Spiceworld The Movie was released in 1997 where we were victim to awkward acting but classic style from all five of the girls. Where Baby Spice’s platforms seemed to be getting higher and higher, and Posh getting more stern looking.

1997 also The Spice Girls attending the Royal Variety Performance in London, where they met the Queen. They opted for a more demure look than usual with floor length gowns in their ionic colours and prints.

The Spice Girls promoted Pepsi in branded outfits in their classic styles and cuts with crop tops, tracksuits and hot pants. Although an American brand the branded outfits are reminiscent of their British heritages.

They certainly “spiced up their lives” when they took a turn for leather and lace outfits in the Spice Up Your Life video. This was a new look for the girls as they broke away from their iconic leopard print, union jacks and pink platforms.

In 2000 the band were now a four piece after Geri left, and opted for a more tame look during the “Forever” album. The remaining Spice Girls had more personal style as they had matured in the band and crept away from earlier fashion horrors.

2007 to 2008 saw the band reform as a five piece for their international tour donning the Union Jack flag during interviews and public appearances. As Posh, Baby, Ginger, Sporty and Scary had developed a personal style and look this was brought through to their reunion tour but still with hints of the past prints and styles.

2008 led to more mature and dark music videos with clothing to match, whilst Geri showed off as much flesh as possible still! But the majority being more sensibly dressed as motherhood was upon them.

London Olympic Games 2012 was everything British; meaning The Spice Girls got yet another revamp and paraded around on customised black cabs for each of the five girls to suit their characters. Posh wowed the most in her Giles Deacon dress whilst also showcasing a piece from her own collection in the fashion show amongst other British designers.

In December 2012 we saw the five girls reunite once more for the premier of the “Viva Forever” stage show in London, all girls breaking free from their original fashion stereotypes.
